Eleanor D. Halsey — Austin

AUSTIN — The funeral for Eleanor D. Halsey will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Austin, with the Rev. Dave Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea.

Eleanor Dell Halsey, 96, a longtime teacher, died Monday (Dec. 24, 2007) at the Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.

Eleanor Olson was born Oct. 28, 1911, in Albert Lea. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Education and Library Science. She taught in Minnesota schools for 44 years, the last 29 of which were in the Austin public school system. She retired in June 1975.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, and after retiring from teaching spent many years in the children’s library at the church. She was a member of the National Education Association, the Minnesota Education Association and the Austin Area Education Association.

Survivors include two sisters, Muriel Anderson of Albert Lea and Margaret Jensen of Owatonna. Other survivors include a niece; two nephews; and dear friend, Ozzie Earl of Austin. She was preceded in death by a sister.


Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church.

Clasen-Jordan Mortuary of Austin is in charge of arrangements.
