Ellen M. Haack — Stewartville

STEWARTVILLE — A memorial service for Ellen M. Haack, 98, will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 24 in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stewartville, with the Rev. Lyle Fritsch officiating. Her body was donated to Mayo Medical School.

Mrs. Haack, of Stewartville, died of natural causes Sunday (Feb. 11, 2007) at Stewartville Care Center, where she had lived the past 9 1/2 months.

Ellen Malinda Henke was born Oct. 24, 1908, in Pleasant Valley Township, Mower County. She attended Pastor Mueller’s German Lutheran Parochial School in Stewartville and graduated from Stewartville High School as valedictorian in 1927. On May 17, 1931, in Stewartville, she married Edgar Haack. She was a homemaker and also during her life worked at Haack’s Grocery Store in Stewartville, as a nurse’s aide at Worrell Hospital and at Stewartville Nursing Home, and at Libby’s. Mr. Haack owned and operated Haack’s Motor Service in Stewartville from 1944 to 1971. He preceded her in death on May 18, 2001. She was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and had been active in the Ladies Aid, the Evening Guild, LWML and the choir. She enjoyed reading and playing cards.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Gattegno of Seattle, and Diane (Robert) Harding of Fort Collins, Colo.; two sons, Deane (Judy) of Eugene, Ore., and Lyndon of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Lylia Nickel.

Friends may call an hour prior to the service at the church on Feb. 24.
