Ellis E. Douty -- Adams

ADAMS -- The funeral for Ellis E. Douty will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams, with the Rev. Gregory Leif officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with Adams American Legion Post No. 146 conducting military rites.

Mr. Douty, 81, of Adams, died Saturday (Sept. 6, 2003) at his home.

He was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Lohrville, Iowa. His family moved to Dexter, where he attended elementary school. He graduated from Elkton High School. During World War II he served in the Navy. On Dec. 9, 1944, he married Doris Elliott at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. The couple lived in Grand Meadow and Dexter before moving to Adams, where Mr. Douty was a feed salesman for Moorman's Feed and then the bar manager for the Adams American Legion. He retired in 1986. The couple were grand marshals for two Dairy Days parades. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Adams American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bob (Janet) of Rose Creek, Lester (Susan) of Corona, Calif., and Jim (Sarah) of Adams; six daughters, Kay Louise (Dennis) Distad of Burnsville, Minn., Jannette (Thomas) Nolan and Julene (Michael) Nolan, both of Mankato, Minn., Monica (Larry) Mullenbach of Rose Creek, Lynn (Russell) Weber of Brownsdale, and Lillian (Ray) Wiste of Plainview; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eva Mae (Milton) Bjerke of Richfield, Minn. One brother preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home. There will be a 4:30 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. prayer service Tuesday at the funeral home.
