BLOOMING PRAIRIE -- The funeral for Emmett A. Swanson Sr. will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church in rural Austin, with the Rev. Bruce Falksen officiating. There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. Thursday in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing, Minn.
Mr. Swanson, 84, of Blooming Prairie, formerly of Hibbing, died Sunday evening (June 23, 2002) at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie.
He was born Aug. 22, 1917, in Hibbing. On April 10, 1942, he married Marjorie M. Gelling in Minneapolis. Mr. Swanson was a heavy equipment operator and co-owned Mesaba Construction Co. with his brothers and sisters in Hibbing from 1935 until 1990. He lived in the Hibbing area until 1997, when he moved to this area to be near his family. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Hibbing. He enjoyed the outdoors, carpentry, repairing things and playing cards.
Survivors include a daughter, Marge (Kenneth) Trihus of Blooming Prairie; a son, Emmett Jr. (Cathi) of Minneapolis; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
