AUSTIN — Emmett John DeVaney, 89, a longtime Austin resident, died Thursday (Nov. 16, 2006) at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.
He was born in Rock Falls, Iowa, in 1917. He spent many years working as an automotive parts salesman in Southeast Minnesota, most recently working for Akkerman Manufacturing of Brownsdale. He was an active member of the early railroading club in Austin that secured the steam locomotive and trains that are part of the Mower County Fairground facility.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; a daughter, Diane (Clint) Hertle of Austin; two sons, Stan (Velva) of Burton, Mich. and Jeff of Baxter, Minn.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elaine (George) Curry of Overland Park, Kan.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
