AUSTIN — A graveside service for Erna W. Nelson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield, with the Rev. Myrwood Bagne officiating.
Mrs. Nelson, 91, of Austin, died Sunday (June 3, 2007) at the Comforcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin.
Erna Wilhamina Ernestina Petersen was born Jan. 1, 1916, in Primghar, Iowa. She attended a Center Township Country School and graduated from Primghar High School. She married Delbert Schultz on Feb. 19, 1937, and they had one daughter, Judith Ann. Mr. Schultz died on June 15, 1938. She moved to Brownsdale in October 1958, where she was employed at the First American State Bank. On Dec. 15, 1961, she married Arthur Nelson, and they farmed in Waltham Township, Mower County, until their retirement in 1974. They then moved to Austin.
Mrs. Nelson was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield, Hope Circle, and the Waltham Doer’s Women’s Extension Club. Her hobbies included quilting, crocheting and doing crafts.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith (Richard) Bress of Centennial, Colo.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Elmer (Aleene) Petersen of Sutherland, Iowa. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her second husband and a sister.
