Erwin Philip Richter -- Lewiston

LEWISTON -- The funeral for Erwin Philip Richter will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immanual Lutheran Church at Silo in rural Lewiston with the Rev. William Meilner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Richter, 81, of Lewiston, owner and operator of Richter Agency, died Saturday afternoon (Aug. 17, 2002) in the emergency room of Winona Community Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 17, 1921, in Lewiston. On Feb. 26, 1949, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Schneiter at Litchfield, Minn. The couple made their home in Lewiston. Mr. Richter spent his early years as a dairy farmer and farmed north of Lewiston. He was employed in the insurance and real estate business and owned and operated the Richter Agency for over 40 years. He was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he held many church offices and was also involved in the Southeastern Minnesota District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Mr. Richter was a member of the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce, was involved in the Southeastern Minnesota Board of Realtors, active in the Republican Party, and was a member of the Gideons.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Liz (Bruce) Hobert of Mt. Dora, Fla., Margi (Phil) McLain of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Ruth (Ed) Doepel of Aurora, Ill.; three sons, John (Denise) of Charlotte, N.C., Jim (Sara) of Bellville, Mich., and Bill of Lewiston; 18 grandchildren; two sisters, Esther Marxhausen of Rollingstone, and Dorothy Zabel of Plainview; and one brother, Eldor Richter of Arlington, Heights, Ill. One sister preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hoff Funeral Home-Lewiston Chapel, and at the church one hour before the service on Wednesday.
