Events part of Archaeology Week

Two events in the region will highlight Minnesota Archaeology Week, which runs through Sunday.

A program about the prehistory of Houston County will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Houston County Historical Society Center, 404 E. Main St., Caledonia. Ernie Boszhardt of the Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center will speak.

Research at an archaeological site in Goodhue County will be the topic of a program at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Anderson Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Red Wing. Dr. Ronald Schirmer, professor at Minnesota State University, Mankato, will present the results of a new high-precision radiocarbon dating project.

A related event June 7 will be a flintknapping demonstration by Rod Johnson from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Welch Station along the Cannon Valley Trail.
