The Mower County Senior Travelers have taken to the road after a winter break.
Thursday was our first trip of 2008, as we made a return visit to the Old Log Dinner Theater in Excelsior, Minn. It was fun traveling with longtime friends after a long winter.
Our travelers now are on a 13-day trip to the southeastern part of our great country. Some of the highlights will include Savannah, Ga.; Charleston, S.C.; Beaufort, S.C.; Nashville, Tenn.; the state of Kentucky; and Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Tracking their weather, the high 70s sounds pleasing to us. After returning to Austin, we’ll share our trip, as I know many of you already have visited this area, and will have a chance to reminisce and share in the places we visited or even entice you to plan a visit there someday.
- May 3 — "Festival of Nations" at the RiverCentre in St. Paul. This annual weekend event is definitely a trip that would invite children of all ages to join in the fun. There will be an International Bazaar, featuring food and customs from many countries. It’s a very colorful event, with music, dance, demonstrations and a day to stroll on your own. This trip is open to the public, departing at 8:30 a.m. and returning about 6:30 p.m.
- June 1 — "Church Basement Ladies 2nd Helping" is filled with two other dates set: June 29 (Sunday) and Oct. 2 (Thursday).
- June 10 — "Isle Casino at Waterloo." This one has been on the request list and we are happy to sponsor it for you. A one-day trip, departing at 7:30 a.m. and returning about 6:30 p.m.
The regular hours for the travel office are from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. All of our trips are open to the public.
Monthly newsletters can be picked up at the Travel Message Box, near the main front-door entrance. Members of the senior center receive monthly newsletters, which include items of the many services and events plus a travel page.
