Former Kasson resident Melanie Clifford recently self-published "The Earth Waited," a book of Christmas poems and short stories that she wrote and illustrated.

Clifford said the first half of the book explores the story of the birth of Jesus "from prophesy to event" while the rest includes Christmas-related material such as stories about holiday memories she has from growing up in the Kasson area.

"It's a soft, warm-hearted Christmas read," said Clifford, who lives in Maple Grove, Minn., with her husband. "It's quite eclectic; there's something for everyone."
