Expect four new ramps on U.S. 52

From staff reports

Four new on- and off-ramps on U.S. 52 in Rochester will open soon.

The ramps include the northbound off-ramp at 19th Street Northwest, the southbound exit to eastbound Civic Center Drive and the southbound on- and off-ramps at 16th Street Southwest.

The new ramps were scheduled to be opened today, but the schedule depended on good weather. It was not known if Friday's rain would delay the openings.

Poor weather did delay work planned for today to demolish piers and foundations that formerly were part of a bridge spanning Seventh Street Northwest and the Dakota, Minnesota &; Eastern Railroad.

No makeup date has been scheduled, said Tim Odell, construction manager for Zumbro River Constructors, the firm performing the highway project.

The demolition would have required closing Seventh Street today.

New southbound highway lanes, between Salem Road and the Zumbro River, were slated to reopen today.

New northbound highway lanes, in the vicinity of the 19th Street interchange, were scheduled to reopen Wednesday.

Several closures and traffic restrictions are planned in the coming two weeks. Those include:

The East Frontage Road, between Second and Sixth streets southwest, will be closed for two weeks for sound-blocking wall construction.

The East Frontage Road near Hillcrest Shopping Center will be closed now through the end of October as it is reconstructed.

The southbound off-ramp at 55th Street Northwest will be closed for one day, today, for drainage work. Traffic will be detoured to 41st Street and onto frontage roads.

On Oct. 15, the Zumbro River trail passing under the highway will be closed for eight weeks to facilitate bridge construction.

Also on Oct. 15, major construction will restrict traffic at the Sixth Street interchange. The northbound off-ramp will be closed, as will Sixth Street between the bridge and 15th Avenue Southwest. The closure is scheduled to last 10 days.
