FAITH FOCUS COL Pastor, author to speak

The Rev. Nancy Victorin-Vangerud of Prospect Park United Methodist Church in Minneapolis, the author of "The Raging Hearth: Spirit in the Household of God," will give a series of lectures Friday and Saturday at the University Center Rochester and Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester.

At 10 a.m. Friday, Victorin-Vangerud will give a lecture at the University Center Rochester's Hill Theater, 855 30th Ave. S.E., titled "Water for Life: An Ecotheological Response to the World Water Crisis." Admission is free and no registration is required.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Victorin-Vangerud will give a lecture at Christ United Methodist Church, 400 Fifth Ave. S.W., titled "Beside Still Waters: Restoring the Souls of Humans (Like Us)." The registration fee is $15.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Victorin-Vangerud will lead a seminar at Christ United Methodist Church in which she will give three lectures, "Water Democracy: Thinking Outside the Bottle," "Elemental Ecofeminism: By Water and the (Wild) Spirit," and "Learning the Language of the Sea: Re-imagining God through an Archipelagic Imagination." The registration fee, which includes lunch, is $60.

Victorin-Vangerud's lectures are co-sponsored by the Creative Learning Institute and Christ United Methodist Church.

Service of healing

A service of healing will be held at 10:15 a.m. Sunday at the chapel of Christ United Methodist Church, Fourth Street and Fifth Avenue Southwest in Rochester.

The service is lead by a pastor and will include hymns, prayers, scripture readings and the opportunity for anointing with oil and the laying on of hands. The service lasts about a half-hour.

Pastors leadership announced

The Evangelical Pastors Fellowship has announced its leadership for 2006-2007: the Rev. C. John Steer of Autumn Ridge Church, president; the Rev. Dan Berkland of Oasis Church, secretary; the Rev. Rod Marquette of Destiny Church, treasurer.

150th anniversary celebration


PRESTON -- A sesquicentennial celebration will be held beginning with a 10 a.m. coffee fellowship and 10:30 a.m. worship service Oct. 8 at Preston United Methodist Church.

Latin Mass scheduled

Monsignor Donald Schmitz will celebrate a traditional Latin Mass at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 11 Fourth Ave. S.W. in Rochester.

General Conference broadcast

A broadcast of the 176th Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be screened Saturday and Sunday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2300 Viola Road N.E. and 1002 16th St. S.E., both in Rochester.

The Saturday general sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday sessions will be held from 10:30 a.m. (which includes music and the spoken word ) to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.


Messages of inspiration and guidance for individuals and for families will be delivered by the First Presidency, members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and other General Authorities and general officers of the church.
