National Farmers Market week is being celebrated throughout southern Minnesota and northern Iowa Aug. 5-11.
The local growers who operate farmers markets represent one of the fastest growing segments of agriculture. The popularity of farmers markets is a testament to the public’s desire for fresh produce, meat and other goods, purchased directly from the grower or maker.
The Rochester Downtown Farmers Market will kick off a month of diversity and international markets, called "Market for All." Chef demonstrations, music, giveaways are planned.
African cultures will be featured Aug. 11; Hispanic and Latino on Aug. 18; Asian and Pacific Island on Aug. 25.
The market at Main Street Square in Hampton, Iowa, also has several special events planed. From 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 7, Marie Boyd from Healthy Harvest will do food demonstrations and provide samples and recipes.
