Q: Your style philosophy?

A: Style is a sense of presence. It's as much about how you present yourself as where you go to shop or what clothing designer label you chose.

Q: Talk about maternity fashion…

; A: Maternity clothes are extreme. It seems like you're either wearing a tent and you feel like you're floating underneath the big top, or the newer styles are very tight with a lot of spandex in them, and I feel like a balloon ready to burst. It's difficult to find a happy medium.

If you're working, it's hard to find career clothes, especially in Rochester.

Q: Has pregnancy changed your style?

A: No. It is more difficult to find things that you feel comfortable wearing when you are pregnant. But my style, I think, tends to be fairly simple and classic with a bent toward the romantic. I like floral and those kinds of prints and I have been able to find some dresses that I like at Laura Ashley.

Q: Any tips on finding stylish maternity wear?

A: We do have Motherhood Maternity now, which is helpful, and I've gotten quite a few things there, but you might find some things on the Internet. (For instance, Gap and Old Navy have online maternity sections, she says.)

Q: Which labels dominate your clothing collection?

A: I don't tend to buy according to label. I shop everywhere from Refashion to Marshall Field's. I look for sales and for clothing that looks good on my body and (with my) coloring. I look for things that are well made.

Q: What style clique do you envision for your unborn baby?

A: We have an almost four-year-old child and he has a very specific interest in how he dresses. He wants to wear a Batman T-shirt every day. So I don't live with the illusion that I'll be able to influence after a few years the styles that this child chooses. Presentable is what we're hoping for. (Laughs.)

Q: Anything else?

A: I think people just need to take a look at the body they have, the attributes they have and try to bring out the best in what they've been given.
