FASHION YOUR STYLE Shane May, -- 34, Young People's Theatre director for Rochester Civic Theater; Personal Style "Uh, eclectic" art entertainmentp Q: Anyone ever yell "Shane, come back!" to you?
A: My whole life. It is one of the banes of my existence, I have several of those, that's one. I just love it. My mom actually named me after that movie. My name is Shane after the character and my middle name is Alan after Alan Ladd who played him.
Q: So acting was destiny?
A: I wouldn't say it was destiny because it took me a long time. I didn't get into it until my late 20s. Before that I wanted to be a writer, a filmmaker, a lawyer …
; Q: You're an actor: Are you always Acting!?
A: Yeah, sometimes I act like I'm happy, sometimes I act like I'm listening, sometimes I act like I care.
Q: You're a director: Are you always Directing!?
A: Um, yes. And I'm often directing myself, and I often don't listen to myself, so I'm often yelling at myself.
Q: When shouldn't a man wear shorts and sandals with tube socks?
A: When he's in bed.
Q: Then what's appropriate?
A: Then you have to have boots.
Q: Whose wardrobe would you love to own?
A: I would love to own Dean Martin's wardrobe because he's got it going on, even though he's dead.
Q: Who most influenced your style?
A: Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Jonathon Davis and Fred Durst and the Phantom of the Opera.
Q: Where do you shop?
A: Wherever they sell clothes cheaply. I often shop at the costume department here in the theater. I shop wherever I can get shoes for $10 and shorts for $15, and wherever I can find the coolest T-shirts. Right now, I'd say Hot Topic, they have some cool T-shirts there, and Spencers has some cool shirts, too. That's what I'm all about, I'm all about style.
Q: Anything else?
A: Being the fashion mogul that I am, if any of your readers need any tips, they can give me a call, or they can stop in and we'll have some coffee and a little chitchat.
