The recent death of an inmate at the Federal Medical Center in Rochester has been ruled a suicide. Michael Heston, 50, died Jan. 24 of complications of a hanging, according to Olmsted County coroner Dr. Eric Pfeifer.

Heston was convicted of mailing threatening communications in North Carolina, said Dan Cansino, the prison’s public information officer. Cansino declined to comment on Heston’s case, citing the U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prison’s Suicide Prevention Program guidelines.
