PRESTON — Fillmore County Sheriff Daryl Jensen has announced that he will seek a second term as sheriff.
The Fillmore County Board appointed Jensen in April 2005 and Jensen was elected in November 2006. Jensen started his career as a patrol deputy in Spring Valley in 1979.
Jensen has worked with the county board on the county's emergency communication interoperability needs, which will soon be the subject of federal mandates, according to a statement he released Thursday.

He said he's been working with other sheriffs in southeastern Minnesota to see how they can "share technology, improve service to the public and work on ways to reduce expenses."
Jensen has served as district director for the Minnesota Sheriff's Association, which covers 13 counties in southeastern Minnesota, since 2008. He was recently installed as director for 2010. Jensen just finished a two-year term as chairman of the board of trustees for the Sheriff's Youth Programs of Minnesota.
Jensen started the first Citizens' Academy in Fillmore County in 2009 and plans to run a second academy in the fall.
Jensen is married with two adult children and one granddaughter.
