Final Four Frenzy winner almost perfect

Post-Bulletin, Rochester MN

None of the entrants in the Post-Bulletin’s Final Four Frenzy contest achieved perfection.

But Bob Millner of Rochester came close. He had the four Final Four qualifiers predicted correctly — as did four others among the 39 who entered — and then accurately forecast Kansas as the champion.

He had UCLA reaching the title game instead of Memphis, but his point total of 500 was still good for first place.

"I chose Kansas through the tournament because of strength of schedule, experience and... Kansas is my home state," Millner said.

"When Memphis beat UCLA I wasn't too surprised as I felt the West Coast was not as strong this year.  I was concerned meeting with Memphis, though."

As well he should have, when his beloved Jayhawks trailed by nine points with just over two minutes left. But they staged one of the most dramatic rallies in Final Four history to win in overtime.

Second place goes to Darrin Herrera, who also had Kansas beating UCLA in the title game. He finished 50 points behind Millner because he had Texas coming out of the South Region, instead of Memphis.

Entries got 50 points for each region champion, 100 points for each national semifinal winner and 200 points for the correct championship game winner.
