Fire that possibly started near the center console eventually engulfed a vehicle early Tuesday at a residence north of Austin.
At 3:55 a.m., Austin firefighters responded to a vehicle fire in the 26000 block of 547th Avenue in Lansing Township, Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi said.
The vehicle’s owner, a 56-year-old man, told authorities that he started the vehicle and went into his home for a cup of coffee. When he came back outside, the man saw and smelled smoke coming from the vehicle.
The man moved other nearby vehicles, Amazi said, and then drove the smoking vehicle to the end of his driveway to get it away from his home in case it became engulfed in flames, which happened eventually.
