No injuries were reported late Wednesday afternoon after a fire broke out in a detached garage in Southeast Rochester.
The homeowner of a residence in the 1900 block of 50th Avenue SE called 911 about 4:40 p.m. to report a structure fire. The homeowner told dispatch that smoke and flames were seen in the rear part of the home's detached garage.
The Rochester Fire Department responded to the residence with two tanker trucks of water to ensure there was sufficient supply to fight the fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly, but some stayed on scene for about two hours to ensure all of the fire was put out and would not reignite.
The fire was contained to the detached garage and attached shop area of the building. The shop area sustained heavy fire damage while the garage area sustained heat and smoke damage. The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office.
