PINE ISLAND — A former Pine Island man was killed Sunday in an apparent murder-suicide after a neighborhood dispute in Richmond, Va.

Sean David McKay, 29, was shot and wounded about 3:20 p.m. and was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he died, authorities said.

McKay is the son of Gary and Nancy McKay of Pine Island. He graduated from Pine Island High School in 1998 and joined the Marine Corps, where he met his wife, Trinity. He has two children.

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the suspected gunman, who lived in the same block as McKay, ran from the scene and was found in a field a short distance away. He had also been shot and died at the same hospital a few hours later.

Authorities believe the second man’s wound was self-inflicted. His identity was being withheld until his family’s notified.

Police don’t believe McKay provoked the attack. Authorities said the suspect had a history of neighborhood disputes.
