STILLWATER, Minn. — Four people were hospitalized after their car plunged into the St. Croix River in downtown Stillwater.

Police Chief John Gannaway said three of the victims were in critical condition at Regions Hospital in St. Paul and one was in fair condition.

Authorities say the car went through thin ice around 10 p.m. Sunday about one block east of Main Street and a quarter-mile north of the Stillwater Lift Bridge. Rescue divers broke the car’s windows and pulled the passengers out within 10 minutes after receiving a 911 call.

The four weren’t immediately identified.
