BROWNSDALE — The funeral for Frieda Oudekirk will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Brownsdale, with the Rev. Jerry Harris officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brownsdale.
Mrs. Oudekirk, 97, died Thursday (April 24, 2008) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester. She had been a resident of The Cedars in Austin.
Frieda Risius was born Feb. 22, 1911, in Ackley, Iowa. Her family moved to Minnesota in 1914. She went to school in District 41 in the Brownsdale area and graduated from Austin High School in 1928. She attended a year of Normal Training and taught school for several years. On Oct. 20, 1939, she married Eldred Oudekirk in Brownsdale. A member of First Baptist Church, Mrs. Oudekirk taught Sunday school and vacation bible school, and was the church pianist for many years. She and her husband farmed for 35 years and moved to an acreage near Brownsdale. She enjoyed embroidery work, crocheting, reading, playing the piano, and being with her family.
She is survived by two sons, Wilbur (Diane) of Dodge Center and Darrell (Joy) of Austin; three daughters, Janice (John) Holst of Brownsdale, Cheryl (Roger) Bowie of Centralia, Ill., and Linda Oudekirk of Rochester; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Harry (Evelyn) Risius of Bricelyn, Minn. She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church.
