The final curtain has fallen on the Masque Youth Theatre & School in Rochester, which closed for good last month because of funding shortages.
The final play, "Madwoman of Chaillot," was performed June 30. The production brought the career of Masque founder Sylvia Langworthy full circle: It was the first play she ever directed 50 years ago, and she directed the Masque’s young actors during their final performance.
The play ended the Masque’s 23-year-history: The theater’s downtown building and its contents will be sold, and there are no immediate plans to resurrect the theater elsewhere.
