April 21: The 15th Annual MS Walk, a fund-raising event coordinated by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, will be conducted in 13 cities across the state. The Rochester five-mile and 11-mile walks will start and finish at Soldiers Memorial Field. Check in from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be rest stops, entertainment, lunch, volunteer support and vehicles to help tired walkers. Walkers may earn prizes by raising pledges. April 27-28: Friends of Mayowood is sponsoring an early-bird slow-pitch softball tournament. The tournament will guarantee four games and is open to men's, women's and co-rec teams (co-rec must play in the men's division). All games will be played at McQuillan Park. There will be some prizes for winners in each of several brackets, but because this is a benefit, most of the money will go to Friends of Mayowood. April 28: Rochester Public School Foundation will sponsor a bingo fund-raiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rochester Community and Technical College Heintz Center. The foundation awards grants to public schools in the district. The initial bingo card is $2 and subsequent cards are $1 and are exchanged on the hour. There will also be prizes, concessions and basket raffles.

Fund-raising programs

Rochester Catholic Schools has kicked off its 2002 Science and Technology fund-raising campaign. Donations may be targeted to three initiatives. They are: Technology Matching Gift Challenge, 21st Century Science Fund or Library Automation Project (K-8 elementary schools). The campaign runs through April 30. The Mayo High School Class of 2002 Senior Party Committee has established a group through Current mail order company to buy wrapping paper, cards, knickknacks and other items through Current's Web site at www.currentfun.com. The Web site will ask for the state, then the name of your fund-raising organization. Click on Minnesota and Mayo High School Class of 2002.
