Saturday: The second annual benefit dance for the Southeast Minnesota Rural Education and Resource Center will be in the new Commercial Building at the Winona County Fairgrounds in St. Charles. This will be an old-fashioned barn dance. General admission is $6, $4 for those younger than 18. Chicken dinners will be served from 4 p.m. until the food is gone. Cost for the dinner is $6.25 for a quarter chicken, $7.25 for a half chicken.
Saturday: Harvest Fest in Dodge Center and the South East Minnesota Support Our Troops committee are sponsoring a personal gear drive. Needed are new or clean used T-shirts and new boxers of all sizes, CDs and donations to help with shipping. There will be a raffle of handmade items, with proceeds used for supplies and shipping costs. Supplies may be left at a drop-off spot on Main Street in Dodge Center.
Saturday: The ALS Association, Minnesota Chapter, will have its second annual Walk to D'Feet ALS in Rochester. Amyotrophic lateralsclerosis is more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the shelter at East Silver Lake Park. The walk starts at 10 a.m. The 1.8-mile route is around East Silver Lake. Saturday: Longfellow Elementary School will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to noon in the school gym. There will be a bag sale from 11 a.m. to noon. For more information, call the school at 281-6100.
Saturday and Sunday: Safe Haven Pet Rescue's annual rummage sale fund-raiser will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Olmsted County Fairgrounds, building 40. Items may be donated for the sale today and Friday at Building 40.

Sunday: The third annual Lupus Walk for Hope will begin at 1 p.m. at the west Silver Lake Pavilion in Rochester. Registration begins at noon. There will be awards, raffles, music and refreshments. A housewarming gift registry, a Love Grows fund-raising program for the Ronald McDonald House, is under way at JC Penney. Items needed by families at the Ronald McDonald House are on the registry. Items can be purchased at the store at Apache Mall or online at www.jcpenney.com.
