FUNDRAISERS COLUMN Saturday and Sunday: The Rochester '76 Lions Club will accept donations during Lions White Cane Days. Lions will be at Hy-Vee Food Stores on both days to accept donations on behalf of the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank and Children's Eye Clin

Oct. 3: Season's Hospice, a nonprofit hospice agency serving Rochester and surrounding communities, will host a thrift sale and basket auction from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Olmsted County Fairgrounds. Donations of theme baskets and gently used items are being accepted for the sale. For more information or for pick-up of items, call 285-1930.

Oct. 3: Members of the Rochester Orchestra will stage a benefit concert at 6 p.m. in the Kahler Grand Hotel in downtown Rochester. The program includes a social hour, dinner, silent auction and concert. Tickets are $60 ($35 tax-deductible). For more information, call 286-8742.

Oct. 4: The fifth annual powder puff football game between Century High School seniors and juniors to raise money for the 2004 class party will be at the school stadium. Pre-game activities, including recognition of vets and active duty service people, and a Corvette show, will begin at 5 p.m. The game begins at 7 p.m. Brat dinners will be available for $5. Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $3 for students.

Oct. 5: Stewartville Lions 11th annual Harvest Dinner will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Stewartville Civic Center. The meal will be a full turkey dinner catered by the 7th Rib, with musical entertainment by the Larson's playing the piano and accordion. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6-10, and $3 for those younger than 6. Tickets are available from Stewartville Lions members and local merchants. Tickets are $2 more at the door. Proceeds will be used to support Lions sight and hearing projects and community projects.

Oct. 9: The annual benefit banquet for New Life Family Services, a Christian social service agency, will be at Mayo Civic Center in Rochester. A silent auction and hors d'oeuvres will be served in the Grand Lobby at 6 p.m., and dinner and a program will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Reservations are free and may be made by calling 282-3377.

Oct. 10: The 13th annual pre-holiday wine tasting to benefit Hiawatha Homes will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Rochester Marriott Ballroom. Cost is $25 per person. Tickets are available at Andy's Liquor locations, Hiawatha Homes Office (289-8683) or at the door the night of the event. Special wine-tasters' room rates at the Rochester Marriott are $69. Oct. 11: Friends of Mayowood and Olmsted County Historical Society are holding an Evening of Bluegrass and Barbeque from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Historic Mayowood Stone Barn in Rochester. Dress is country casual with music by String Fever Bluegrass Band of Northfield, Minn., and the buffet by Outback Steakhouse. There will be a cash bar for wine and beer. The cost is $35 per person, with proceeds benefiting Mayowood Mansion. Make checks payable to Friends of Mayowood and mail them to 1104 Sixth St. S.W., Rochester, MN 55902. Fund-raising programs

A housewarming gift registry, a Love Grows fund-raising program for Ronald McDonald House, is at JC Penney. Items needed by families at the house are on the registry for donors to choose from. Items can be purchased at the store in Apache Mall or at www.jcpenney.com (click on "gift registery/housewarming/Ronald McDonald House").

The Century choirs are selling Butter Braids through Oct. 5. Butter Braids, a homemade frozen pastry, are available in cinnamon, blueberry cream cheese, cherry, apple, cream cheese and raspberry, and sell for $7.50 each. Orders can be placed by calling 529-4179 or by contacting any Century choir student.
