Saturday: A walkathon will begin at 9 a.m. at the Grand Meadow Dome School. Proceeds will supplement the district's budget. A Belgian waffle breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The menu includes all-you-can-eat waffles with toppings, link sausage, juice and coffee. Cost for adults is $5 presale and $6 at the door; ages 6-12 is $3.50 presale and $4 at the door; ages 5 and younger eat free. Use the southeast entrance.

Saturday: The seventh annual Zumbro Falls Cancer Walk-A-Thon, sponsored by Gold Cross, will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Zumbro Falls softball field. Participants will be shuttled to the South Troy Church, where the six-mile walk begins. There will be rest stops with refreshments every two miles. Saturday: The Kasson-Mantorville Activities Department's annual K-M Challenge Fund Golf Tournament will be at the Zumbro Valley Recreation Club. Money raised will support K-M co-curricular athletics and fine arts programs. The tournament will be a 9-hole best ball. Golf and a steak meal are included in the registration fee of $30 per person. Saturday: Churchill Elementary School rummage and bake sale will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2240 Seventh Ave. N.E., Rochester. Toys and children's clothes, household items and baked goods will be sold. Proceeds go for school playgound equipment.

Sunday: Stewartville Care Center Family Council's annual roast beef dinner and bake sale will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Stewartville American Legion Post No. 164. Proceeds will benefit the center's residents. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 10 and younger, and are available at Ace Hardware, Himmer Snyder Drug, Stewartville Care Center and at the door.

Sept. 27-28: The Rochester '76 Lions Club will accept donations during Lions White Cane Days. Lions will be at Hy-Vee Food Stores on both days to accept donations on behalf of the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank and Children's Eye Clinic, the Macular Degeneration Center and local Lions sight-related projects.

Oct. 3: Season's Hospice, a non-profit hospice agency serving Rochester and surrounding communities, will have a thrift sale and basket auction from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Olmsted County Fairgrounds in Rochester. Donations of theme baskets and gently used items are being accepted for the sale. For more information or for pick-up of items, call 285-1930.

Oct. 9: The annual benefit banquet for New Life Family Services, a Christian social service agency, will be at Mayo Civic Center in Rochester. A silent auction and hors d'oeuvres will be served in the grand lobby at 6 p.m.; dinner and program will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Oct. 10: The 13th annual pre-holiday wine tasting to benefit Hiawatha Homes will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Rochester Marriott ballroom. Cost is $25 per person, and tickets are available at Andy's Liquor locations, Hiawatha Homes Office (289-8683) and at the door. Special wine taster's room rates at the Rochester Marriott are $69. Fund-raising programs

A housewarming gift registry, a Love Grows fund-raising program for the Ronald McDonald House, is under way at JC Penney. Items needed by families at the Ronald McDonald House are on the registry. Items can be purchased at the store in Apache Mall or online at www.jcpenney.com.
