Gail Frederick Sickeler -- Lake City

LAKE CITY -- A memorial service for Gail Frederick Sickeler will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Lake City, with the Rev. Eric Feig officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City.

Mr. Sickeler, 87, of Lake City, died Sunday (Oct. 24, 2004) at Lake City-Mayo Health Systems Hospital.

Born April 17, 1917, in Leetsdale, Pa., he grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in soil science. He lived in Lake City for a short time before enlisting in the Army during World War II. He served from 1942 to 1946. On Feb. 2, 1946, he married Betty Podas in Minneapolis. Mr. Sickeler worked for the Department of Agriculture in the Soil Conservation Department in Minnesota and Iowa. He and his wife moved to Lake City in 1983. She died Oct. 14, 1997. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and enjoyed boating, anything that pertained to Lake Pepin and working with stained glass.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah (Richard) Mjelde of Bend, Ore.; a son, Peter (Colleen) of Chaska, Minn.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A son, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Friends may call one hour before the service Friday at the church.

Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City is in charge of arrangements.
