Georgina E. Schlinger — Hayfield

HAYFIELD — The funeral for Georgina E. Schlinger will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield, with the Rev. Thomas Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Hayfield.

Mrs. Schlinger, 94, of Hayfield, died Monday (Oct. 1, 2007) at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield.

Georgina Erna Bishman was born July 9, 1913, in Waseca County, Minn. She attended high school in Waseca, Minn., graduating in 1931. As a young girl, she worked for families, helping with housework. On Oct. 18, 1939, she married Adolph Schlinger. The couple moved to a farm southwest of Hayfield.

Mrs. Schlinger was handy with many skills that helped on the farm. She raised laying hens, sewed clothes, knitted, upholstered furniture, gardened, canned, helped butcher beef, pork and chickens, and became very good at carpentry work. In retirement, she and her husband moved to Hayfield to a new home they built. Mr. Schlinger died April 30, 1985. For the last few years, she had resided at Midtown Manor in Hayfield.

Survivors include two sons, Harley of Cottonwood, Calif., and Daryl (Diana) of Pine Island; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, three brothers and a sister.


Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield, and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
