Gerald C. 'Jerry' Mercer -- Rochester

ROCHESTER -- The funeral for Gerald C. "Jerry" Mercer will be at noon Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Norman Wahl officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Mercer, 70, of Rochester, died Wednesday (Sept. 6, 2006) at Seasons Hospice, following a six-month illness with cancer.

He was born Dec. 16, 1935, in St. Charles. He grew up in the Rochester area and served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. He returned to Rochester and worked for Holm &; Olson Flowers and later Whiting's Flowers. In 1998, he retired after 27 years with the Minnesota Department of Transportation. On Nov. 18, 1961, he married Jane E. Pagel at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester. She is a retired bank manager. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, flying and his German Shepherds.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Steven H. (Jackie) of Charles City, Iowa; a daughter, Kay M. (Keith) Mahoney of Cannon Falls; three grandchildren; two brothers, Wally (Helen) of Chatfield and Bob of Rochester; and a half-brother David (Tammy) Mercer of Rosamond, Calif.. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.


The family prefers memorials to Rochester Senior Citizens Center, Bethel Lutheran Church or Seasons Hospice.
