ROCHESTER -- A memorial service for Gertrude H. Mildenstein will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Samaritan Bethany Heights, with the Rev. Larry Tantow officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
Mrs. Mildenstein, 92, of Rochester, formerly of West Concord and Austin, died Friday (Sept. 19, 2003) at Saint Marys Hospital. She had lived at Samaritan Bethany Heights the past few years.
Gertrude Helen Meggitt was born Aug. 17, 1911, in Charles City, Iowa, moved to Austin at age 3 and graduated from Austin High School. On Aug. 15, 1931, she married Harold Mildenstein in Austin, and they lived in West Concord. Her husband died in September 1967. Mrs. Mildenstein was a nurses' aide at Morning Side Nursing Home in West Concord for 10 years before moving to the Rochester area. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Calvary Baptist Church, and enjoyed Bible study, playing bingo and word puzzles.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharie (Mike) Saugen of Pine Island; two sons, Richard (Kathy) of Austin and Rodney of Jackpot, Nev.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, a son, three brothers and a sister.
