Gilma Flattum -- Spring Grove

SPRING GROVE -- The funeral for Gilma Flattum will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mabel First Lutheran Church in Mabel, with the Rev. Stephen Fiksdal officiating. Burial will be in Mabel Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Flattum, 83, of Spring Grove, died Sunday (July 23, 2006) at Tweeten Health Services in Spring Grove. She had been a resident of Tweeten Health Care since 2001.

Gilma Rosheim was born Nov. 19, 1922, in Whalan. She attended Grubtown School near Highland. On March 15, 1941, she married Hans Flattum at the Elstad Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Newburg and Mabel areas until 1959, when they moved to Mabel. In 1989, they moved to the Tweeten Apartments in Spring Grove. Her husband died Oct. 23, 1993. She enjoyed getting out and seeing people, and went to the senior citizen meetings at the Legion every day that she was able. She was a member of the Mabel First Lutheran Church, WELCA and Ladies Aid.

Survivors include five daughters, Marilyn (Marland) Myhre of Necedah, Wis., Helen (Gary) Bjerke, Linda (Art) Thorson and Debra Dahlberg, all of Plover, Wis., and Cynthia (Charles) Peterson of Spring Grove; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Delone Fossum of Mabel. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, a great-grandson, a sister and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
