GIRLS BASKETBALL HIGHLIGHTS Mabel-Canton senior Molly Horihan broke 1,000 career rebounds in the Cougars' 39-34 win Saturday over Fillmore Central. The 6-foot-2 post had 996 career rebounds going into the game, and she grabbed 12 during the game.

Horihan, who has a scholarship to play volleyball at Winona State next season, has played on the M-C varsity since she was an eighth-grader, though as a substitute her first year. Even including eighth grade, Horihan has averaged 9.5 rebounds a game for her career. This season, she is averaging 13.5, rebounds a game, including 7.0 on the offensive boards.

M-C's Emily Eiken played just 3 minutes in the Cougars' win Saturday, but she sank two three-pointers during that time, including one that sparked the Cougars in the fourth quarter after they had fallen behind.

Katie Klindworth scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in Goodhue's 63-44 win that ousted Blooming Prairie from the Section One, Class A playoffs. The Wildcats scored 25 points in the second quarter to take control.

Zumbrota-Mazeppa held Dover-Eyota to three points in the first quarter and two in the third quarter in a 46-27 win. Monica McNamara scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Cougars. D-E's Teresa Meiners scored 21 points, most of them after driving to the basket.

Senior Laura Nelson scored 12 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and made four steals for Lyle/Austin Pacelli in a 46-41 loss to Medford. L/AP led until, with 2 minutes left in the game, Medford got some turnovers using full-court pressure. L/AP's Kate Boisjolie made four assists.

La Crescent grabbed an 11-4 lead early in the first quarter, but Plainview came back to lead 31-19 at halftime. Plainview won 58-42.

Tournament note:

Rushford-Peterson coach Mike Jeresek will be facing a protege Tuesday when the Trojans play Mabel-Canton at 8 p.m. in Mayo Civic Auditorium. M-C coach Dave Lind played on the Rushford boys basketball team in the early 1980s when Jeresek was coach. Also, Lind has two nieces on the R-P team -- Katy Drinkall and Chellsey Lind.
