RED WING -- One man died and five people were injured early this morning in an accident in Goodhue County.

According to Rick Rabenort, the county's public safety director, the accident occurred along Goodhue County Road 18, a quarter mile north of U.S. 61. It was reported at 3:55 a.m.

Rabenort said when deputies arrived at the scene, one vehicle was overturned in the northbound lane of County Road 18 and three people were lying in the road. One of them was a 35-year-old man who died at the scene.

Two other occupants of the vehicle were transported to Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester and three people were taken to Red Wing Medical Center. Their conditions were not available this morning.

Rabenort said the victims were adults.

The Good County Sheriff's Department continues its investigation to determine whether the occupants were wearing seatbelts and if speed and alcohol were factors, Rabenort said.

Investigators also need to confirm the identifications of the victims, he said. At least one of the occupants of the vehicle had an out-of-state identification, Rabenort said.
