Goodhue returns to section finals

; Defending section and state champion Goodhue is back in the Section Four, Class A championship football game.

The Wildcats smoked Mayer Lutheran 38-0 in Saturday's semifinals, at Goodhue. They will travel to Lester Prairie to play the No. 1-seeded Bulldogs, who turned back No. 5 seed St. Agnes in Saturday's other semifinal.

Brandon Voth scored three touchdowns on runs of 8, 5 and 1 yard, and added a two-point conversion. He finished with 149 yards on 20 carries.


Josh Budensiek broke a 72-yard run for another touchdown, and Kyle Roschen dived 1 yard for another. Adam Johnson kicked a field goal and three after-touchdown conversions.

Goodhue (6-4) rolled up 373 yards rushing on 59 attempts, and added 57 yards on 3-for-3 passing.

The defense held Mayer to 11 yards rushing and 58 passing. Russ McNamara and Budensiek were the Wildcats' leading tacklers, while Alex Dicke and Roschen each sacked the quarterback and Calvin Ryan intercepted a pass.
