Gophers to host opening rounds of 2004 women's tournament

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The University of Minnesota's Williams Arena has been chosen as one of 16 first- and second-round sites for the 2004 NCAA women's basketball tournament.

The tournament dates in Minneapolis haven't been set but will be either March 20-22 or March 21-23.

Gopher women's basketball coach Pam Borton said the team was excited to host the tournament, but she said her players have a lot of work to do before they can play in front of their home fans.

Minnesota has advanced to the NCAA tournament in each of the last two seasons.

Last season, the Golden Gophers posted a 25-6 record and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time.
