Responding to the census is required by law, and the results of the 2020 Census affect community funding, congressional representation and more. The count is mandated by the Constitution and counts the population in the U.S. and five U.S. territories: Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
So, what if you're among the households that haven't filled out a census yet? Well, you’re getting another postcard reminder. An estimated 34.3 million households across the nation will be receiving those reminders.
If that doesn’t work, you might be getting a visit from a Census worker. Enumerators, a person who is employed in taking a census of the population, will begin visiting homes Aug. 11.
