Top seeds win at Family Circle
CHARLESTON, S.C. — Vera Zvonareva, Agnes Szavay, Agnieszka Radwanska, and Katarina Srebotnik all won their opening matches Monday at the Family Circle Cup.
The ninth-seeded Zvonareva was the highest seed in action, and beat Chuang Chia-jung 6-2, 6-2. Szavay, seeded 10th, defeated Yuliana Fedak 6-0, 7-6 (4), the 12th-seeded Srebotnik got past Timea Bacsinszky 7-6 (4), 6-3; and 11th-seeded Radwanska edged Marta Domachowska 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Defending champion Jelena Jankovic is the top seed in the $1.3 million clay-court tournament.
