Beckham returns for Galaxy

CARSON, Calif. — David Beckham entered as a substitute in the 68th minute of the Los Angeles Galaxy’s game against the New York Red Bulls on Thursday night, his first action in 11⁄2 months.

A huge cheer went up from the crowd as Beckham waited on the sideline to enter the game, which was tied 1-1 when he went in.

The midfielder hadn’t played since Aug. 29 when he sprained his right knee in the SuperLiga tournament final. He was already playing with an injured left ankle that occurred before he joined the Galaxy in mid-July.
