MOVING ON
Top-seeded Montreal advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals with a 5-0 victory over Boston in Game 7 of their first-round playoff series on Monday night. The Canadiens, who haven’t won a playoff series since 2003-04, will face Philadelphia in the second round if the Flyers can win their Eastern Conference quarterfinal against Washington. Otherwise, Montreal will face the New York Rangers.
COMEBACK
Washington defeated Philadelphia 4-2 on Monday night to force Game 7 in its Eastern Conference first-round series. It was the second time in the series that the Capitals rallied from a two-goal deficit and won on an Alex Ovechkin’s game-winner. Washington is also trying to become the 21st team in league history to come back after being down 3-1 and win a best-of-seven series.
