HESPER, Iowa — The funeral for Harold C. Rollie will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, Iowa, with the Rev. Matt Larson officiating. Burial will be in Hesper Lutheran Cemetery with the American Legion and VFW providing military rites.
Mr. Rollie, 87, formerly of Hesper, died Saturday (Nov. 1, 2008) at Maple Manor Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Rochester.
Born June 23, 1921, in Wilmington Township, Houston County, he attended school in Hesper and in Minneapolis. On April 3, 1941, he enlisted in the Army and was a truck driver. During World War II, he served three years overseas, in Iceland, England, Ireland, France and Germany, and for seven months was a prisoner of war near Mooseburg, Germany. On Oct. 12, 1946, he married Norma Burmaster in Spring Grove. They lived in Hesper for 52 years.
Mr. Rollie worked for two service stations, for Redwing Brothers Chevrolet, and for Larson Hardware in Mabel. He was a member of Hesper Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and stock car racing.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Dennis (Sharon) of Rochester and Neil (Colleen) of Tomball, Texas; two daughters, Sandy Nelson of Hastings, Minn., and Linda (Ken) Rasmussen of Blaine, Minn.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret (Duane) McKenna of Rochester. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra; his parents, Julius and Inga (Almaasbak) Rollie; a brother and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel, and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church in Hesper.
