AUSTIN -- The funeral for Harold Herbert Keller will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, with the Rev. David Simerson officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Austin. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 1216 and American Legion Post 91.
Mr. Keller, 81, of Austin, a retired Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Friday evening (Sept. 12, 2003) at Austin Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Sargeant, and attended school in Austin and Mantorville. On June 23, 1942, he joined the Army and served with the 430th Ambulance Company, 425th Battalion in northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe. After his discharge on Dec. 19, 1945, he returned to Minnesota. On Aug. 3, 1946, he married Norma Murphy at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin and they made their home in Austin. Mr. Keller worked at Hormel for 32 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and watching sporting events.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James (Kathy) of Chisago City, Minn., and Daniel (Roxanne) of Minneapolis; three daughters, Nyla Veverka and Suzette Keller, both of Minneapolis, and Julie (Michael) Anderson of St. Paul; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Howard (Betty) and Clifford (Charlotte), both of Austin, and John (LaVerne) Keller of Eugene, Ore.; and two sisters, Merle Anderson of Hayward, Minn., and Florence Ohm of Austin. Three brothers preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and an hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
