Hassler opens with a comedy

PLAINVIEW — Theater, storytelling and music are all part of the 2008 season at the John Hassler Theater in Plainview.

The new season opens June 13 with Neil Simon’s comedy "The Good Doctor," which runs through July 13.

The romantic comedy "Enchanted April" will be presented Sept. 12 through Oct. 12, followed by the Minnesota-based musical "Don’t Hug Me," Nov. 17-Oct. 16.

Meanwhile, the Hassler Summer Sampler will be offered on weekends in August.

The Rochester Radio Theatre Guild will perform Aug. 1-2; the one-woman show "Women Who Drink" will be presented Aug. 8-9; children’s storyteller Leslye Orr will present "An Elephant Up a Tree" for children Aug. 9; the Mary Louise Knutson Trio will play jazz Aug. 15; the City of Lakes Sweet Adelines Chorus will perform Aug. 16, and the Irish Minstrels will take the stage Aug. 22-23.

A celebration of the life of Jon Hassler, who died earlier this year, will be held July 26 with readings from his novels, tours of his boyhood home and a dance featuring the IceJam Quartet.
