Hayfield teenager dies in crash Wednesday

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

A 16-year-old Hayfield teen died in a crash Wednesday, Jan. 20, in rural Dodge County.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office was dispatched about 8 a.m. Wednesday to a an accident involving a tractor-trailer truck and passenger car near the intersection of 220th Avenue and Dodge/Mower Road, according to a news release from Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose.

While on scene, the deputies reported that the passenger car, a 2010 Honda Accord, slid on ice around a curve and into the oncoming lane of traffic. The car was then hit by the truck.

The driver of the car, Macy Holtan, 16, of Hayfield, was extricated by Hayfield Fire and Rescue and taken by medical helicopter to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys where she died from her injuries.

The driver of the truck was not injured.
