Hazel Viola House -- Spring Valley

SPRING VALLEY -- The funeral for Hazel Viola House will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley, with the Rev. William Rowen officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery.

Mrs. House, 81, of Spring Valley, a lifelong area resident, died Friday evening (Sept. 19, 2003) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester following a brief illness.

Hazel Viola Johnson was born Dec. 11, 1922, in rural Cherry Grove and lived in the Cherry Grove-Spring Valley area all her life. On Oct. 6, 1945, she married Lawrence House in rural Cherry Grove. They farmed in rural Spring Valley. Mr. House died Feb. 16, 1985. She had worked part time for the Spring Valley Historical Society, was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, and was a longtime member of the Etna Girls Club

Survivors include two sons, LaVern (Helen) of Spring Valley and LaVoie (Debbie) of Red Wing; a daughter, Elrose (Darryl) Johnson of Ingleside, Ill.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Myrna (Walter) Krahn of Rochester and Livona (Lloyd) Krahn of Spring Valley. A brother preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
