A “gently used” children’s clothing shop has outgrown its space and is planning to move to a larger Rochester spot this spring.
Once a Upon a Child, now based in a 3,800-square-foot storefront in the Barlow Plaza, has lined up more comfortable digs at 3432 55th St. NW in the Northwest Plaza, says local franchise owner Tyler Rogers.
The new location will put Once Upon A Child next to Plato’s Closet, a used clothing store for adults, also owned by Rogers.
“A lot of our customers shop at both. We think it will be more convenient,” he said.
The new spot is currently occupied by Kelley’s Quality Sewing Center, which is running a retirement closing sale. Rogers hopes to have the expanded Once Upon a Child open in mid-to-late April.
Coincidentally, the last time Once Upon A Child moved to a larger Rochester space, it shifted into a spot left open when Kelley’s Quality Sewing moved.
“We will increase our inventory quite a bit in the larger space,” said Rogers. “And the new store will have a refreshed look with new colors … and new cash registers.”
That also means Once Upon A Child, which has six employees, will need more people to staff the expanded shop. The plan is to bring the number of team members up to 10 to 15.
