After 12 years of teaching Pilates fitness classes in Rochester health clubs and at her home, Connie Bruce recently decided it was time to launch her own studio.

Bruce is almost ready to open the doors of Uptown Pilates at 121 23rd Ave. SW, in the commercial center anchored by the BluePearl Pet Hospital, just off of Second Street Southwest.

The studio's first day is scheduled for Sept. 3.

Uptown Pilates is stepping into the 1,400-square-foot studio previously occupied by Dance Lab before it moved to a new spot in Rochester.

Bruce's new studio will offer a Chair, Barre and private classes for different skill levels, as well as classes using Pilates reformer equipment. Beyond fitness, she emphasized that Pilates can also help people in need of physical rehabilitation.

"I just want to be able to offer Pilates to all of Rochester, not for clubs," she said. "With the way the town is growing … people coming in from other places, Rochester needs a studio like this."

Uptown Pilates will offer up to 30 classes taught by Bruce and Torri Murphy.
