An area surveying and engineering firm recently opened a Rochester office.

Johnson and Scofield Inc., which is based in Red Wing, opened the new office at 1418 First Ave. NE in July, said Rochester Office Manager Jake Perrine. Johnson Scofield also has offices in Wabasha, Winona and Hastings.

"We've had this (opening a Rochester office) in mind for years. It's hard to ignore the growth of Rochester," said Perrine.

The office is located above WT Lighting, where Land Consultants of Southern Minnesota was previously located. Land Consultants closed, when its owner, Cedric Schutz, retired.

Johnson and Scofield has inherited Schutz's files from more than 35 years in business.

"Since 1980, our personalized, high-level customer service has fueled our continued growth and expansion. We are excited to continue this growth with our new office in Rochester," stated Johns and Scofield CEO Marcus Johnson in an announcement of the opening.

While engineer Perrine is currently the sole Johnson and Scofield employee based in Rochester, plans include adding a surveyor to the Med City office.
