Heard on the Street: Rochester station to extend evening newscast, end morning one

One of Rochester's television stations is expanding its evening newscast, while pulling the plug on its morning one.

Fox 47 KXLT-TV, owned by SagamoreHill Broadcasting, plans to extend its News at Nine broadcast from 30 minutes to one hour this fall. It airs Monday through Friday. It is operated by Quincy Media’s KTTC-TV in a shared services agreement

Meanwhile, its Fox in the Morning show at 8 a.m. will end on Sept. 27. Anchor Jack Keenan is leaving to move to Quincy Media’s sister station in Fort Wayne, Ind.

"Loyal news viewers in our area are always looking for more local news from trustworthy resources," stated SagamoreHill CEO Louis Wall in the announcement of the changes. "Our ratings for Fox 47 have continued to show a lot of people turn to us for news and information in the evening and that number keeps growing."

The expanded broadcast will be anchored by Maddy Wierus, who joined the Fox 47 staff in August.

SagamoreHill purchased Fox 47 from Madison, Wis.-based Shockley Broadcasting in 2004.

Fox 47 went on the air in January 1998. In November of 1999, it debuted its 9 p.m. newscast.
